Apr 14, Lucia rated it really liked it Shelves: textbook , View 2 comments. Dec 27, Haytham Badawey rated it it was amazing Shelves: engineering-basics. This is probably the best book in applied thermodynamics.

I originaly encountered these books while I was an engineering undergraduate and studying them gave me some solid foundations in thermodynamics. The books are very easy to read so not much previous experience in physics is required to understand the new concepts.

Clearly Mr. Cengel and Boles have written a bestseller. This thermo textbook should be required reading for all students, it is that far-reaching to all audiences. It is possibly the best entry in the series, improving on the faults of bland inorganic chemistry by integrating the elements of steamy, warm and wholesome goodness of The plot is well-written and outshines Shakespeare and the various Greek playrights.

The pacing and thematic elements are well Clearly Mr. The pacing and thematic elements are well-planned and are possibly the strongest selling point of this book.

My only complaint is there is too much of mechanical elements, and not enough elements of chemical-based thermodynamics. Reading this book in public and having to analyze the energy expended by various explosive gasses lead to very awkward conversations about the function of mechanical engineers. It would simply be easier to show the general public vector calculus and reams of partial derivatives and let them stare in a state of awe and confusion.

Aug 03, Fernando Guerra rated it it was ok Recommends it for: newcomers on thermodynamics. Shelves: science. As a chemical engineer, this book is a lousy source on the vast field of "engineering thermodynamics". It is a great introductory text, downgrading such complex theoretical concepts as entropy or exergy to a beginning level, but the mathematical deductive framework is almost totally missing.

There is practically no mention whatsoever of extremely important notions as, e. The equation of state approach to problem As a chemical engineer, this book is a lousy source on the vast field of "engineering thermodynamics".

The equation of state approach to problems is incredibly basic this meaning almost nonexistent from an engineering perspective, dooming the user to the ideal gas law or the use of charts unless a more complete reference is consulted. If one is familiar with the first three or four chapters, an immediate change is advised to another book such as Chemical, Biochemical, and Engineering Thermodynamics , the best text on engineering thermodynamics I've come across so far.

I was a little skeptical that it would be the same material as in the 7th edition but i was wrong. Thanks I was a little skeptical that it would be the same material as in the 7th edition but i was wrong. Mar 05, Azar Yusifli rated it it was amazing. Great boom for the introduction to thermodynamics with clear explanation, examples and exercises.

I enjoyed the occasional life lesson this book tried to teach. For example, in chapter 6, Cengal reminds us to reevaluate our friends as he compares quality and quantity of heat vs. In the same section, he also examines why Americans are so fat despite strict 1st law of thermodynamics diet approach turns out not many of them were aware of the 2nd law.

Feb 13, Mariana Espinal rated it it was ok. It was very boring and long I bought another thermodyanmics book to use as a supplement to this one I had the international copy so it was black and white! I'm sure in color it would be better!

Loved this textbook. Feel everyone should read a little of thermodynamics and understand the first and especially the second law a little. Thermodynamics is not only science, it's a philosophy and I think it can help everyone achieve more in life. I m missing Sir. Definitely the must have book for Physics Engineer I don't know if it's just this book and my teacher's lack if inspiration but after this semester I've established that I hate thermodynamics.

Jul 25, Arya rated it it was amazing. Need to have this on your shelf. Feb 27, Brent rated it really liked it. Thermodynamics is the study of energy, which is the ability to change or effect change. It gave new insight into spiral energy and spiral lifeforms.

Mar 27, Katie rated it did not like it Shelves: college-textbooks. Shelves: nonfiction. Apr 19, Marouumi rated it it was amazing. Totally worth it! Very well explained examples.. The way the book represents new subjects by illustrations and life-related text is a plus. There are no discussion topics on this book yet. Readers also enjoyed. Goodreads is hiring!
