Krizi frsata dntrmek adna; ncelikle sektrn doru mecralarda tantlmas iin Gemi Sanayi Dergisinin yurtd datm ciddi anlamda arttrld, bunun yannda uluslararas fuar ve kongrelerde etkinlikler oaltld.
Teni pazar araylar artrld. GESAD, bu almaya ilikin yaknda ok nemli aklamalar yapacann sinyallerini vermeye balad. GESAD, bu projeye ynelik almalarn her koula ramen, kesintisiz srdrmeyi baarmtr.
GESAD btn almalarn yan sra; sektr, idare ve niversitelerle yapt ibirlii erevesinde, krizi frsatlara ve kalknmaya dntrmenin yollarn aramaya da devam etmektedir. I have been writing about the activities carried out by Association of Shipbuilding Industrialists in this column for a long time.
I remember telling especially about the endeavors towards development and representation of the sector at international arena and the distance we have taken. Now, we started to see the outcomes of this hard work. The challenges in the maritime sector started with unfortunate accidents that took place in the shipyards. This process was not easy for GESAD Association of Shipbuilding Industrialists either, because the press and media organs always pointed out the sub-industrialists as the scapegoat.
First of all; it continued previously-launched activities and trained management staff within the framework of GESAD-university collaboration. Secondly; it had its employees trained on occupational health and safety quickly.
It tried to relieve the burden on the community conscience and public opinion by means of its activities instead of being involved in gossips upon death incidents.
Before effects of such events totally fade away, the global economic crisis which burst in the USA in unexpectedly made our industry upside down. Again GESAD shouldered all necessary activities and precautions in order to overcome the crisis with the least damage.
Meanwhile, other projects have been implemented without any delay in the international arena. In order to turn the crisis into an opportunity; the circulation of Ship Industry Magazine distributed abroad was significantly increased to promote the sector in proper channels. Furthermore; number of events arranged in international exhibitions and congresses was increased. In addition, more efforts were spent to seek for new markets. GESAD gave the signals of making notable statements about this project.
This project is expected to provide contribution to both Turkey and international shipbuilding industry thanks to its innovative initiatives taken towards technological development.
It will also lead positive impact on Turkeys economy with its contribution to employment and added value. GESAD has always managed to sustain its activities to this end under all circumstances. Beside all these activities mentioned above, GESAD is still searching for new ways of turning this crisis into opportunities and development.

We jumped into the year with intensive efforts towards overcoming the trauma caused by the global economic crisis which broke in We have seen our drawbacks because of being captured unprepared in this period.
So we realized importance of preparing for an influential crisis and deriving precautions ready for implementation. Like precautionary steps taken in case of natural disasters As Namk Keml stated years ago Get prepared for war if you want peace Life goes on despite all worries.
Certainly we are to detect truths and correct mistakes. We are placing more emphasis on activities directed at increasing our effeciency in international exhibitions and congresses.
We also exchanged views about research and development studies. Gnter Verheugen delivered a speech at the reception. In his speech, he told that the current economic crisis affected both Europe and the rest of the world negatively and emphasized the importance of renewable energy resources.

Resepsiyonda Gnter Verheugen yapt konumada; ekonomik krizin Avrupay ve dnyay olumsuz ynde etkilediinden ve yenilenebilir enerji kaynaklarnn neminden bahsetti. Verheugen konumasnn sonunda, ABye ye ve aday yelerin niversitelerinin katld yarmada, lkemizi temsil eden T stanbul Teknik niversitesi rencilerinin hazrlad projenin birinci olduunu aklayarak dllerini verdi. Resepsiyonda aklanan baar ve verilen baar dln hak eden Sabri Alkan bakanlndaki T Denizcilik Fakltesi Deniz Teknolojisi Mhendislii ve Gemi Makineleri letme Mhendislii rencilerinden oluan ekibimizle gurur duyduk.
Ekip, destek verilmesi halinde ne byk baarlar elde edebileceklerini gsterdi. Ve grlyor ki; bu tip almalara verilen destek yarnlara yaplan en byk yatrm oluyor. Bu yl lkemizde yaplan seimlerle meslek odalarmzn yeni yneticileri de belli oldu. Bakanla yine Metin Kalkavan seildi. Oda Meclis yeliklerinde ve meslek komitelerinde baz deiiklikler gerekleti.
Eski ynetime yapm olduklar almalardan dolay teekkr ederken, yeni ynetime de hayrl olmas temennisiyle baarlar diliyoruz. Bata Babakanmz Recep Tayyip Erdoan olmak zere, Ulatrma Bakanmz Binali Yldrm ve tm yetkili kurumlarn destekledii GOSB kuruluumuz, Sanayi ve Ticaret Bakanmz Zafer alayann tm reel sektrde olduu gibi gemi sanayimiz zerinde gsterdii titiz almalar sonucu, yaknda kurulu almalarn tamamlayacaktr. Teknolojik gelimeye ynelik, yeniliki almalaryla lkemiz ve uluslararas gemi ina sanayine byk katklarda bulunacaktr.
Ayrca katma deeri, istihdam yksek getirisiyle de Trkiye ekonomisindeki yerini alacaktr. Bizler zoru baarmann, bizim yapmzda olduuna hi tereddt etmedik.
Yolumuz ak olsun. Verheugen announced the the project proposed by students from T Istanbul Technical University as the winner and awarded the prizes. We were very proud of our teams success and the prize at the event. I want to extend my gratitude to the Chamber of Marine Engineers and Turkish Lloyd, which supported all these activities.
The team proved that considerable success can be recorded as long as support is given. And we saw that supporting such activities is the biggest investment in the future. New chairmen of professional chambers were appointed at elections held this year in Turkey. Like in many other professional chambers, replacements were made in some of the positions in MEAK Chamber of Shipping. Metin Kalkavan was again appointed as Chairman of the Chamber.
Some of the Council Members of the Chamber and professional committees were replaced. We thank to the former management board and wish success for the newly appointed staff.
In , important and rapid developments took place in relation with GOSB Specialized Organized Industrial Zone for Ships establishment activities, which are expected to move Turkish Shipbuilding Industry in both domestic and international area. Local and international shipbuilding industry as well as its added value with innovative activities towards technological development will take its place in Turkish economy thanks to its high contribution in overall employment rate.
On behalf of Association of Shipbuilding Industrialists, we thank to Mr. Mehmet Ersoy, Yalova Governor, Mr. Ali Gl, Yalova Provincial Director of Industry and Trade, and the other parties involved due to their distinctive contributions to such an establishment.
