Shifting the focus from an individual to the structural causes of poverty creation and maintenance is present in the recent decades. The main claim of this paper is that the current national system of social assistance in Serbia creates and maintains the oppressive practice in work with poor clients. The objectives of this article are: analysis of the mechanism to exercise the right to cash benefits, from the submission to approval of the request; systematization and analysis of the institutional and systemic obstacles to exercising the right to financial social assistance; detection of oppressive practice elements in the welfare centres and in their work with the poor.
Findings indicate that there are multiple obstacles on relations system-client and social worker-client that prevent the use of anti-oppressive practice in practice. Using the triangulation method, she indicates that all European anti-Semitism is embedded in traditional theological narratives and the resulting social options.
The phenomenon of social deprivation is highly diversified; hence there are a number of methods for measuring it. This article is a summary of a literature review concerning the methodology for calculating deprivation indices showing differences in research on deprivation. Reports, carried out on behalf of public administrations as well as academic articles from ten socially and economically developed countries, although diversified, were analyzed.
Partial indicators from the indices were classified into eight thematic groups representing different deprivation dimensions. A total of partial indicators were analyzed.
Moreover, other methods of researching social crisis phenomena were discussed i. In the analyzed countries, indicators of education and living conditions were considered most frequently while those relating to health and crime the least.
The most common partial indicators are average levels of income, unemployment, overcrowding and education. Expressing the social and cultural problems the minority culture is exposed to the concept subaltern has a sigificant place in the study fields of postcolonial literature. Subalternity, one of the basic parameters that can be used in the analysis of Indian society and culture, take places among the situations that an Easterner freequently come across.
This paper takes up the concept of subalternity espoused by the Subaltern Studies to identify and analyse the inequalities, victimisations and silences experienced in postcolonial Indian society. The term "subaltern" refers to any person or group of inferior rank and station whether in terms of race, class, caste, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity or religion. In addition to this, it also refers to lower strata people of illiterate, non-elite cultural groups who are under-represented, undertaught, noncanonical and the subordinated group.
Those are always directly or indirectly influenced by ideologies of dominant class. One of the most prominant authors of the postcolonial Anglo-Indian literature, Aravind Adiga deals with Balram Halwai who lives the most painful experiences of social inequality in Indian society and his struggle for resistance against the dominant structure. This novel, in which the subjects such as injustice, poverty, caste system, social corruption are dealt with, presents the reader realistically how the subaltern consciousness arises.
The main themes of the work such as subaltern, subaltern problems, social inequality are among some of the reasons of why alienation and otherness appeared. Based on this common ground the essence of the concepts mentioned and the point reached will tried to be explained.
We study the effect of residential segregation by race on wellbeing. Wellbeing is measured as self-reported happiness subjective wellbeing.
Segregation is measured at three levels of aggregation. The second dataset, General Social Surveys surveyed respondents about race at the block level. Third dataset, the Quality of American Life surveyed respondents about race at the neighborhood level. There are conflicting theories about the effect of segregation on wellbeing, but we know surprisingly little about the actual net effect.
Sociologists tend to assume, without testing, that segregation has a negative effect because it is associated with concentrated poverty, exclusion, lack of opportunity, and crime. The negative effect is argued for minorities, and especially blacks.
Our results, however, are consistent across all racial groups. We find that whites, blacks, and Hispanics are happier among their own race than among other races. On her first domestic visit, Kersti Kaljulaid speaks out against dividing people according to what language they speak at home. Officials, nationalists accuse marchers of being pawns in a Kremlin-backed effort to destabilize the country.

We live in a world where the average individual has a lot of personal, family and social responsibilities. Unfortunately, more and more individuals do not have the necessary internal resources to cope with these daily responsibilities and seek pseudo-balance in alcohol consumption, not taking into account the devastating effects of excessive alcohol consumption.
That is why alcoholism can be defined as a particular form of adaptation and socialization in an increasingly diverse world. Alcohol is considered a depressant drug because it reduces the brain's ability to make decisions that greatly restrain the economy, representing the third major health risk factor after cardiovascular disease and cancer worldwide.
Alcohol abuse has serious consequences on the individual, both at the psychiatric, social, legal and even ethnic level, which makes alcoholism seen as a global problem with very difficult resolution because alcoholism, like any other addiction, is only treatable, not curable. Another reason I have decided to address this issue is that in this geographical area, especially in rural areas, daily alcohol consumption is considered a normal and healthy lifestyle. Alcoholic beverages brandy, parsley are usually prepared in the individual households of the inhabitants and are not regarded as dangerous legal drugs.
The independence period of the Republic of Moldova conditioned important changes at the economic and political level. Social change refers to the modifications in the basic structures of the society, so it produces a quality and quantity passing to one level to another level of the social system. In this paper we present the results of a survey on a national-level in Moldova. The research was focused on the recent trends in social stratification in this former soviet country.
The study produced findings at two levels of analysis: an in-depth assessment of how migrant integration policies and programmes meet the needs of vulnerable migrant groups, and an assessment of their integration outcomes. Drawing on the analysis of these findings, the publication provides recommendations for improving monitoring mechanisms for migrant integration at the national and EU levels and for elaborating policy approaches for better integration of vulnerable migrants.
