The Charmer is a real page turner and I really wish I'd have discovered Celeste Bradley after she'd done a few more books. I am only waiting for her first 2 books Fallen and The Pretender and I find myself in the frustrating position of now having to wait for her next book.

So nice to see Rose, the maid, back in the Liar's Club series and now she is the first woman that has become a Liar. And Collis is back too, with a very complex history that is totally different than the norm. It was so sad when Rose goes to Collis's room to say goodbye.
What I also liked was all the tussling these two get up to when learning to become spies. This was very good! The editing was much improved which made the book easier to follow The only issue was the clues to uncover various things. I felt blinded some of the times when things were revealed.
The author really needs to give better job with clues so that the reader could follow and feel as though we are helping solve the mysteries. Other than that, i liked it. Collis Tremayne, is determined to become a member of the Liar's Club, a secret government agency of spies. At the top of his training class, Collis' only competition is the former house-maid Rose Lacey.
Rose is clever, brave, and seemingly immune to Collis' legendary charm. As his frustration with Rose grows, so does his desire for her. When Rose Lacey is given the chance to better herself and become a spy for England's Liar's Club, she works tirelessly to meet the challenge. Infuriated with the ease in which Collis achieves success and his arrogant confidence, Rose works even harder to best him while fighting her increasing attraction for her high-born competitor.
When their rivalry gets out of hand, the pair are assigned a secret mission to test their skills and ability to work together. Facing a dangerous threat to England's security, Collis and Rose must use all of their skills to outwit and thwart the enemy.
Can Collis and Rose work together without their tempers and passions exploding? I have read every book in the Liar's Club and enjoyed them all. The Charmer is no exception. Rose may be common by birth, but her driving desire to better herself makes her a strong, yet sympathetic, heroine. In addition, she has beauty, intelligence, and determination. It's no wonder Collis is drawn to her.
Collis is charming, witty, and handsome. Despite his position in society, he doesn't let societal strictures rule his heart. These characters are a perfect balance for each other. I found the plot full of intrigue, the characters compelling, and the dialogue witty. I especially loved the amusing scenes involving the Prince Regent. Celeste Bradley does an excellent job of infusing sparkling humor into her books.
While The Charmer can be read as a stand alone book, I would recommend reading the series in order. I love how character's from previous books cross over into The Charmer. Annabelle Reviewed for Joyfully Reviewed. Finally Bradley delivers a story that has engaging plot and characters that mostly stay true to themselves in the end. The conclusion and feeling of a well-deserved romance is delivered in a logical fashion with this story unlike the first 3 novels that took an abrupt turn midway through and became an entirely different story later.
Rose is a spunky modern woman who has risen above her class to become something deserving of heroism. Collis is the drifting heir apparent desperately in need of a dose of humility as well as purpose to help him recover the man he could be. Together they are the man and woman after. Only niggles are the historically inaccurate bits. A portly Prince Regent traipsing days through tunnels, scaling wet caverns and surviving a bloody beating is pure fantasy. And there's a complete misunderstanding of the rights of royal inheritance.
No bastard son of a royal could be made king at that time. If that were true then Queen Victoria would have given up her throne to one of William IV's bastard brood instead. But Prinny comes off as a thoroughly likeable character here, whilst the entire series makes one loathe Liverpool.
Forsythe is another fun character. Ethan Damont is an odd duck that seems more at home in a Western saloon though exactly why would a well trained spy seek out the help of a card shark on a rescue mission?.
The brothel bits a mildly disturbing given what goes on. My only unforgivable sin is that twice the hero doesn't seem to behave with emotional honest or depth. In two crucial points where the heroine is believed or actually suffers some emotional turmoil we never see the hero follow through on appropriate feelings. He doesn't get outraged or addresses the situation with her. Just glossed over. Carica altre recensioni internazionali. Just keeps getting better and better! I love how the characters are so alive and well portrayed.
I can't wait for the next book in the series! The Liar's Club is quite an intriguing institution, and training and interaction involved in this aspect of the novel is most interesting. Bradly does a good job of having her characters skulk about to discover the traitor, and the tension between Rose and Collis is well done. Romance, intrigue, adventure -- a nice way to spend the afternoon.
