I guess it depends on your taste, but I love the type of humor and brush with philosophy as well as historical accuracy, as far as I can tell. Don't forget that the first part of the book follows the lives of two little boys who live in a culture of religious oppression and wrought with curiosity about life, sex, etc. I thought it was brilliant. One of the few works of fiction I not only had patience for, but enjoyed. I'm not finished this book but I will finish.
A friend I value lent it to me. I could see it was funny but it's not my kind of funny. It irritates me at times. But I study worldview conflicts is society and subcultures and I expect to find the wisdom of fiction that non-fiction never seems to be able to say and I am finding it. I need something to cheer me up - I have been reading and reviewed a book about a tragic shipwreck with much suffering. Now I am gloomy. I have scanned the books which Goodreads list as humour, but I am doubtful about Lamb.
As a Brit, an atheist with no interest in religion and with autistic tendencies, I fear that I won't find this funny. I want wit. Maybe Moore's "A Dirty Job" would be a better laugh? Erika I think any Atheist Brit would love Lamb! My husband is an atheist brit that I have yet to convince to read it but I am still trying. Man that plot twist! I mean, Judas betrays Jesus! Who saw that coming??? Steph I think His Dad probably knew, but I guess He chose to let His Son figure out the cruelty of the world through experience rather than lectures.

I will say that the more you know about religion Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, and Taoism the more you will understand the book and the humour within.

In the sense that it is clearly brilliant judging by how much my Right illiterate brain likes it, and in how many ways. BuT clearly not brilliant in the sense that it doesnt artfully veil a hypercomplex, superdeep, and aesthetically sound left brain geometry that ultimately would warrant critical acclaim.
