I previously had a Sony FX1 and this camera was a major jump and I love the form factor. With that said I agree with some of the others who say the picture quality is average. Someone mentioned they changed all the settings, does anyone have those changes? The Canon lense is awesome. I did use a friends with the Fujinon 17x lense and there is a noticeable difference in picture quality.

If you want something that performs better in low light get the EX1R or the EX3 both more expensive than this cam and put up with CMOS issues like rolling shutter and infra red contamination - Sony largely solved the IR contamination on the EX1R but you still get rolling shutter in action situations. In the field the HM is a pretty rugged camera, which is important if you are an action shoooter and in good light this camera sings.
MOV work on Final Cut. Best uses: Corporate and tourist based field work. If you look after your gear with a decent camera skin. Pros: Proven ergonomics, excellent workflow, shoots to Class 6 SD cards reasonably cheap , good glass options, really nice LCD monitor.

The Canon A1 I have is over 3 years old and still performs as good The only thing going for the is the wow factor, when you pull it out of the case in corporate situations SDHC cards are the way to go, this workflow is amazing.. Don't get me wromg, it is a great camera all round with great controls and features but even being a 1'3" chip, it falls short in many critical areas Would I buy another one NO I would not Awesome camera!!!
