These books take place in a world similar to medieval Japan, but with elements of magic and sorcery thrown in. The magic in these books is subtle and manifests as extra abilities in people from one family - The Tribe. Our main character Takeo grew up as one of the hidden, but when his village is massacred he discovers his own power, leading him into a dangerous life This book has it all, heartbreaking loss, laugh out loud friendships and forbidden love, all with that brutal under-current that will keep you coming back for more!

Who else read and loved it? Which would be fine because the sea and the South Downs are close by. Soooo so happy right now!!! Set in an alternate feudal Japan with lots of scheming and people with magical abilities, this was something different and exciting and I fell in love.

However, although I own 3 and 4 since , I've never read them, but I've reread 1 and 2 many times in the hopes of continuing with 3. Somehow, it never happened till now. I'm currently reading book 3 - the purple one - and hope to continue with 4 and the prequel soon.

Currently re reading talesoftheotori by Lian Hearn. One of the best series I have ever read and if you've never heard of it I seriously recommend renting, buying or loaning it asap acrossthenightingalefloor heavensnetiswide bookstagram bookoftheday mustread japanese. Impressive in its depth and detail, I thought that I would be ready to take a break from the series after getting through the near pages of this book. Recently started re-reading my mismatch copies of The Otori Tales.

It has been years since I read these and I was worried they wouldn't live up to the memory of them that I had. But they are brilliant and I love them just as much if not more than the first time I read them. Sometimes additions to a series can be a bit shoddy but I loved ALL of these prequels.

I remember that much. And these covers are just swoon-worthy. Say yes and make me feel better. New addition to my collection of unread books. It's faded quite badly and doesn't look as good as I remember it back when I was Was moving stuff in storage and came across some of my favourite books.

Since it was such short notice I decided to just buy the book I actually wanted from a bookshop rather than risk another order. Having never returned it, Heaven's Net is Wide was left forgotten in a box of old stuff. Turns out it's a pretty good book. Goes to show that sometimes mistakes - not matter how inconvenient they are at the time - can be a good thing.
